SEE: 2013 City Road Construction Projects in Southwest Minneapolis

The City of Minneapolis will work on more than 54 miles of roadway at a cost of $33.5 million, including several projects in Southwest Minneapolis.

Here are the City of Minneapolis road construction projects planned for 2013 in Southwest Minneapolis, as announced May 29, 2013: 

  • Penn Avenue South – In phase 1 of the project, Penn Avenue from 54th Street West to Minnesota Highway 62 (the Crosstown) will be completely reconstructed.  The reconstruction effort will extend up to 50th Street West in 2014.
  • Nicollet Avenue South – The street was reconstructed from Lake Street to 36th Street last season. Phase 2 of this street reconstruction project will pick up where the project left off, reconstructing the street further south to 40th Street. ...
  • 46th Street West – This street links Lyndale Avenue with King’s Highway. Four blocks of street will be fully reconstructed, and advisory bike lanes will be added. ...
  • Street resurfacing – A total of 29 miles of streets will be resurfaced throughout the city. This work involves milling off the top layer of asphalt and replacing it with a new, smoother driving surface. This includes streets in the following residential areas:
  • The Cooper neighborhood
  • North Dorman area of the Seward neighborhood
  • The Linden Hills neighborhood
  • The Page neighborhood
  • Seal coating – Streets that are in fairly good shape can be seal coated to prolong the life of the driving surface. City crews plan to sealcoat around 23 miles of roadway in Minneapolis.
  • Parkways – Public Works and the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board collaborate regarding pavement management, and maintenance and construction of the Parkway system.  Approximately 2.4 miles of parkways will be repaved by City crews in 2013, and another 12 miles will be seal coated.
