Snowfall Reports: How Much Snow Fell In The Twin Cities On Tuesday?

Tuesday's winter storm dumped a massive heap of snow across the Twin Cities metro area.

TWIN CITIES, MN — At least 8.4 inches of snow fell in the Twin Cities metro on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Here are the official NWS snowfall observations through 6 p.m. Tuesday:

  • Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport: 8.4 inches
  • Chanhassen NWS Office: 5.3 inches
  • Eau Claire, WI NWS Office: 1.5 inches

Tuesday's snowstorm wrecked havoc on the roads. The Minnesota State Patrol responded to more than 300 crashes, including 27 that involved injuries. There were also more than 200 vehicle spinouts, the patrol said.

Looking ahead, Minnesotans will ride a temperature roller coaster before the cold air settles in.

"A week of up and down temperatures are on track as we wrap up Meteorological Fall and begin Meteorological Winter," the NWS said.

"Cold air settles in behind our departing snow system tonight into Thursday morning before a brief warm up through Friday. Another cold front will send temperatures into the single digits Friday night and we'll struggle to hit 20 on Saturday."
