St. Paul Road Closures Planned For Trial In George Floyd's Death

SAINT PAUL, MN — The city of St. Paul is planning for road closures and other traffic changes that will take place during the federal trial of three former Minneapolis police officers involved in George Floyd’s death.

The trial will start on Jan. 20 at the federal courthouse in downtown Saint Paul.

"Our Special Operations Unit has been planning and preparing for weeks," the St. Paul Police Department said in a news release. "Our focus is on protecting people, property and free speech."

Starting Jan. 18, streets around the courthouse will be closed and parking will be restricted:

  • Parking will be restricted on the north side of Kellogg Boulevard, from Cedar Avenue to Robert Street.
  • The Capital City bike lane on Jackson Street will be closed
  • Robert Street will be closed between Kellogg Boulevard and 4th Street East
  • Jackson Street will be closed between Kellogg Boulevard and 4th Street East

Former Minneapolis police officers Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane, and Tou Thao are accused of violating Floyd's civil rights in his death.

In December, former office Derek Chauvin agreed to a plea deal in the federal charges against him.
