MN National Guard Rescues Missing Paddlers In BWCA: Watch

The lost paddlers used flashlights and had written SOS in the sand to get the air crew's attention. Pilots used heat-seeking equipment.

A Minnesota State Patrol Cirrus airplane crew helped rescue two missing paddlers Friday morning in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. Pilots were searching near Oyster Lake using their heat-seeking equipment when they located the man and woman. The lost paddlers used flashlights and had written SOS in the sand to get the air crew’s attention.

The Minnesota State Patrol directed the Minnesota Army National Guard to the location and the paddlers were safely rescued. Authorities began searching for the pair when they hadn’t been heard from after four days canoeing in the BWCA, according to a news release.
