Super Bowl Week Fun: Zip Line Across The Mississippi River

Mayor-elect Jacob Frey will be the first of approximately 10,000 people to soar 750 feet across the Mississippi River.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – Among other things, hosting Super Bowl LII will give Minnesotans the chance to soar across the Mississippi River suspended 100 feet in the air. Marking 52 days from the big game, the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee unveiled the "Bold North Zipline" Thursday, where thrill-seekers will zip line 750 feet from a launch tower on Nicollet Island to a landing tower across the Mississippi River.

The zip line will open on Jan. 26, 2018 and run through game day on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018. Mayor-elect Jacob Frey will be the first to zip line across the Mississippi River.

“Hosting the Super Bowl in Minnesota feels like a thrill ride in its own right, so we figured why not provide this thrilling opportunity to each of our one-million visitors,” Maureen Bausch, CEO for the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee, said in a statement. “The Bold North Zipline is one of the many ways the Minnesota Super Bowl Host Committee is working to create a truly unique experience in Minnesota with something for everyone to enjoy.”

The zip line will be operated by Ziptrek Ecotours, which ran a similar zip line for Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis.

A parallel four-line setup will allow four riders at a time to travel 750 feet across the Mississippi River with thrill-seekers traveling at speeds of 20 to 30 MPH as they glide across the Mississippi River.

Tickets to ride the zip line will cost $30 and are available for pre-purchase here. Tickets will also be available for purchase at Super Bowl LIVE during the 10-day festival. The zip line will be limited to 10,000 riders over the 10 days of Super Bowl festivities, so those interested are encouraged to purchase tickets ahead of time.
