Twin Cities Weather: Area Now Under Excessive Heat Warning
The Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro area is under an excessive heat warning Friday as heat indexes could potentially reach 110 degrees.
TWIN CITIES, MN — The Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro is under an excessive heat warning Friday as forecasters expect temperatures to hover between 90 and 95 through the afternoon hours. Heat indexes could also reach between 100 and 110 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
The excessive heat warning is in effect until 10 p.m. Friday. An excessive heat warning means a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot
temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely.
There’s also an increased likelihood the metro will see severe storms this afternoon. The NOAA National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center updated the thunderstorm outlook for Friday to indicate a moderate risk of severe storms for much of the area. Large hail, damaging winds and tornadoes are the primary threats, in addition to heavy rainfall.
