2-Year-Old Shot, Killed in Minneapolis

A 2-year-old who was struck by gunfire Friday morning has died at Memorial Medical Center.

Minneapolis, MN – A 2-year-old who was struck by gunfire Friday morning has died at Memorial Medical Center. A 15-month-old also suffered a gunshot wound, but officials are saying it is non-life threatening.

Shortly before 11:30 this morning, Minneapolis police responded to a report of gunshots heard at the intersection of Penn Avenue North and Lowry Avenue North, according to a news release.

Once officers arrived on scene, they were notified that the two victims with gunshot wounds were at North Memorial Medical Center.

The Minneapolis Police Department has eight investigators working on this case. According to preliminary information gathered in the investigation, the incident appears to be the result of gunfire between individuals known to each other.

Investigators and officers continue to interview a number of people and are reviewing a great deal of video from the area. K-9 units were used at the scene to look for more evidence.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will release the identity of the 2-year-old victim as well as the nature and cause of death.

Members of the MPD Community Support Team were at the scene and the hospital to help people with their grief and facilitate dialogue. Officers will be providing extra community engagement in this area.
