Authorities Identify Student Who Fell Off FloCo Balcony

The University of Minnesota student was reportedly attempting a stunt when he fell off the fifth-floor balcony of FloCo Apartments.

A 19-year-old student at the University of Minnesota was critically injured after falling from an apartment building in the Minneapolis neighborhood of Dinkytown Saturday night.

According to FOX 9, the student fell from a fifth floor balcony at the FloCo Fusion Apartments.

Officers responded to the call at about 10:08 p.m. Saturday. The student was taken by ambulance to the Hennepin County Medical Center, where he is in critical condition.

The Star Tribune reported that the student, identified Monday night by authorities as Mackenzie J. Caron, has so far survived his injuries from the incident

Dispatch said that Caron “was apparently trying to do some kind of stunt and missed. A couple of people stated that he did this intentionally.”

Another dispatch said “he did a flip and missed. Sounds like he was just screwing around.”

The Minnesota Daily spoke to university student Claire Steffenhagen, who was walking by FloCo moments after the incident took place.

"There was a guy who was laying on his stomach," she said.

"And we looked up, and everyone was just packed on that balcony, looking down. The paramedics came five or ten minutes later and people started flooding the courtyard, wondering what was happening."

Police are not investigating the situation as a criminal incident.
