Unbelted Teen Dies In Single-Car Crash On I-35W: State Patrol

The fatal single-car crash involving four teenagers occurred on Interstate 35W in Minneapolis Monday.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A 16-year-old girl has died after the car she was riding in crashed into a guardrail on Interstate 35W in Minneapolis. The fatal incident occurred on Monday at 7:48 p.m.

Ashakeyr Abdirahman Guled was a passenger in a 2006 Honda Pilot being driven south on I-35W at Johnson Street. The Pilot was in the left lane and abruptly swerved over to the right crossing all lanes and struck the guardrail on the right shoulder.

After hitting the guardrail, the Pilot rolled several times and came to rest under the Johnson Street Bridge.

Guled was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the fatal crash, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Road conditions at the time were reported as wet.

The condition and name of the 17-year-old driver has not yet been released.

Passengers Yahye Mustaf Farah, 16, Zakaria Abdulcadir Said, 17, and Sara Mohamed Sugule, 16, suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash.
