Village Wok, a Staple of the U of M Community, is Closing After 41 Years
Tributes to the popular Chinese restaurant poured in from University of Minnesota alumni after the news broke.
MINNEAPOLIS, MN — A popular Chinese restaurant near the University of Minnesota is closing after 41 years in business, according to a post on its Facebook page.
The Village Wok found its niche as an authentic Chinese restaurant that was popular with Minnesota students and residents of Stadium Village, which borders the Dinkytown neighborhood.

Tributes to the restaurant poured in as news of its closing spread over social media. Many customers shared their memories of frequenting the popular spot during their college years.
Village Wok was my wake-up call to living in the city freshman year...didn't know restaurants were allowed to be open past 8 pm growing up.

It has not yet been confirmed why Village Wok is closing at this time, though it is likely due to a new apartment complex planned for the corner of Washington Avenue Southeast and Southeast Harvard Street, where the currently restaurant resides.
