What's Open, Closed For Thanksgiving Weekend In Minneapolis

Check out which retailers, restaurants, and government services will be open and closed in Minneapolis over Thanksgiving weekend.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Minneapolis city government offices, including Minneapolis 311, will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 23 and Nov. 24 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. City offices will resume regular business hours on Monday, Nov. 27.

There will be no garbage or recycling pickup on Thanksgiving Day and the Transfer Station will be closed. Pickups normally scheduled for Thursday will be made Friday, and pickups normally scheduled for Friday will be made a day later on Saturday. The Solid Waste and Recycling Downtown Customer Service Office will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and on Friday; however the Transfer Station will be open on Friday and Saturday.

The city's parking meters will not be enforced Nov. 24 and Nov. 25, but all other parking restrictions in the city remain in effect and subject to enforcement, including Minneapolis Park Board meters along parkways, University of Minnesota parking meters and those of private organizations who operate their own meters. Always read the information posted on the meter to be certain.

The closures do not affect Minneapolis police and fire emergency services.

Here's a look at which other institutions, businesses and restaurants will be available on Thanksgiving and Black Friday this year:

Schools: Minneapolis public schools are closed Nov. 22 through Nov. 24

Minneapolis Public Library: All branches will be closed Thursday for Thanksgiving and open regular hours on Friday.

Postal Service: Post offices will be closed for Thanksgiving but open on Black Friday. Mail pickup and delivery are on normal schedules Friday.

Banks: Most banks will be closed for Thanksgiving, but the majority of banks — such as JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Citibank — will be open on Black Friday.

Metro Transit: Metro Transit buses and the METRO Blue and Green lines will follow Sunday/Holiday schedules on Thanksgiving Day. The METRO Red Line will follow weekend/Holiday schedules that day.

Northstar trains do not operate on Thanksgiving Day. The Transit Information Center, Metro Transit Service Centers, Customer Relations and Lost & Found are closed on Thanksgiving Day.

Reduced service on the day after Thanksgiving

Due to decreased demand on the day after Thanksgiving, Metro Transit and regional transit providers will reduce service on Friday. Saturday fares will be charged (except where noted). Northstar will follow a reduced schedule.

The Transit Information Center will be open 6:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Nov. 25. The Minneapolis Service Center will be open 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. (the St. Paul Service Center will be closed). Customer Relations and Lost & Found will be open 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
