MINNEAPOLIS — ESPN College GameDay, the popular college football pregame show that broadcasts live from a different city every week during the season, has never been to Minneapolis.

The show previews a game between two AP top 25 teams in the nation. With the Gophers so rarely appearing on that coveted list, the stars haven't aligned for the show — featuring Lee Corso, Kirk Herbstreit, Desmond Howard, David Pollack, and Maria Taylor — to come here.

The University of Minnesota may finally get the chance to play host this year, with the Gophers ranked in the AP top 25 for the first time since 2014.

If the currently 6-0 Gophers stay undefeated after playing Rutgers and Maryland in the upcoming weeks, the producers of College GameDay may consider coming to Minneapolis for the Minnesota-Penn State game.

Another opportunity may present itself when Minnesota plays Wisconsin at home on Nov. 30 for the annual "Axe Week" game.

College GameDay has been to nearly every city with a Division I college football program in the nation. In an aberration of its usual routine, the show once broadcasted Collegeville, Minnesota, to preview the historic Division III rivalry featuring Saint John's and St. Thomas.
