One woman is dead following crash in the Twin Cities that police say was alcohol-related.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — One woman is dead following crash in the Twin Cities that police say was alcohol-related.

On Friday evening around 6:09 p.m., Minneapolis police officers responded to a personal injury hit-and-run motor vehicle crash at 29th Avenue North and Newton Avenue North.

The adult female victim was driving eastbound on 29th Avenue North when she was struck by the suspect’s vehicle that was traveling southbound on Newton Avenue North. The victim’s vehicle then hit a tree, and the suspect’s vehicle hit a parked, unoccupied car, according to police.

Authorities say the suspect, a 28-year-old male, fled the scene on foot before officers arrived.

While officers were at the crash, the suspect returned to the scene and was arrested. The male was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) by North Memorial paramedics for treatment. Officers obtained a search warrant for a blood test on the suspect.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene by North Memorial Medical Center paramedics, according to a news release.

The name of the deceased, along with the cause and nature of her death will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The suspect has been admitted to the hospital and is awaiting formal charges stemming from the crash.

The crash is being investigated by the Minneapolis Police Department’s Homicide and Traffic Investigation Units.
