Affirmations Support Your Intentions

Anita White, Therapeutic Coach®

I have heard it said: “what we tell ourselves we behave ourselves into.” By rewriting our internal self-talk we shift the energy in our neuo pathway to grow a different synapse instead of accessing and running the same pattern on an old one.  Every time we learn, believe or say something different we open ourselves up to possibilities.  Louise Hay and many self-help gurus have paved the way for healing to happen through our language.

Affirmations are an important concept in the power of positive thinking. Personally, when I discover a negative thought that no longer serves my highest positive intention, I write it down and write it over in a positive present tense statement.

Many of my clients are necessity driven. They tell me they feel trapped by their circumstances. They share how they have to take care of everything and everyone, because no one else will step up. Many times I help them write a mantra or an affirmation that fits their situation.

For example:

“I am stuck and I don’t know what to do about it. I feel stifled and trapped in my existence.”

Some other examples for other situations:
"I wish I could loose ten pounds."
Changed to a positive affirmation it could read:
"I gain so much by being lighter about my weight." Or

“My body knows exactly where it feels the healthiest” “I eat and exercise as food is fuel and exercise is energy”

Geez, I am so screwed up sometimes.
Change to: “I am unique and irreplaceable” (Louise Hay)

"Why does life have to be so complicated."
Change to: "Complexity inspires me to transform. I embrace possibility!

“Why do I fight with my partner and have conflict in my relationships?"
Change to: "The relationship I have with myself and others offers beautiful learning experiences"

Several authors recommended to write pages of just one affirmation, say it out loud to yourself a multitude of times, while looking in a mirror at your eyes. Others including myself suggest you set your intention with the affirmation and let the Universe create with you. As part of the intention you may say: “Everything happens in my life with perfect timing, with the exact resources I need and how it happens will be with ease.”
