STILLWATER, MN — Polls have closed across Minnesota, and results are coming in for a countywide bond question in Washington County.

According to the ballot language, the money would be used to improve water quality in rivers, lakes and streams, including the St. Croix and Mississippi rivers; protect drinking water sources; preserve wetlands, woodlands and natural areas; protect land along water bodies from development; purchase parkland; and protect wildlife habitat. Spending would be limited to those purposes, with full public disclosure and an annual public audit.
The ballot estimates the proposal would cost about $24.60 per year for 20 years on a residential homestead with the county's median estimated market value of $420,900. As the ballot notes, a yes vote is a vote for a property tax increase.
All results are unofficial until they are canvassed and certified by the county.
