Income Disparity: Dr. Jay Coggins will Speak Nov. 22 at the Stillwater Public Library

Current economic woes and the congressional impasse over whether to tax our rich at a higher rate make a talk by University of Minnesota professor of Applied Economics Dr Jay Coggins very timely. Dr Coggins spoke recently for the University of Minnesota St Croix chapter of alumni, and will present again for all who are interested in the topic. The presentation will be in the Margaret Rivers room at the Stillwater Public Library on Tuesday, Nov. 22, at 6:30 pm. Entitled “Rich getting richer? Exactly Right.” The talk will be followed by questions.
Dr Coggins focuses on the top one percent in contrast to the 99 percent of American incomes, a comparison that resonates to the current Occupy Wall Street demonstrations that have blossomed over much of the developed world’s cities.
A popular teacher at the University, Dr Coggins presents information from carefully documented sources and provides examples of statistics that are sometimes used, or misused, to bolster one argument over another.
