Arson Suspected in Fire that Destroyed Lakeland City Hall

Authorities say the fire is being called suspicious in nature and the investigation is ongoing.

Foul play is suspected in a fire that destroyed what was going to be the city of Lakeland's city hall. On Nov. 13 at about 11:30 p.m., a fire was reported at the corner of St Croix Tr. S and 12th St S in Lakeland. The site of the fire was the future Lakeland City Hall, which was under construction.

Lower St. Croix Valley and Bayport Fire responded along with the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

KARE 11 reported that the fire destroyed the city hall. The need for the building project had been a subject of controversy in the city. The fire is being called suspicious in nature and the investigation is ongoing, according to a news release.

The State Fire Marshal is assisting the Washington County Sheriff's Office Investigations Division with the investigation. Authorities said that anyone who has information on this fire should call the Washington County Sheriff's Office at (651) 430-7882.
