It's Not About the Broccoli

As parents, we often find ourselves in 'trying' positions with our children. Waging war around the contours of our kitchen table, and for what? To teach lessons. They're brutal, but necessary.

You can be moseying along nicely in parenthood until you realized you've missed some things.

Some BIG things.

Forcing you in to a knock-down, drag-out wrestling match with your five year old over their eating habits or with your three-year-old because they can't seem to keep clothes on.

We all do it, and HAVE to do it, at some point in our years as parents.

Is it necessary?

I believe so.

But does it have to be so painful and exhausting . . .

the verdict's out on that.

Here's a taste of what I'm talking about:

I had a broccoli standoff with Grace last week.

My failings as a mother and serious lack of teaching skills were starting to surface at school. . .

the be-all-end-all of our failings as parents . . .

school, where our worst nightmares come to life. . .

where the shortcomings of our parenting skills display themselves front and center on a stage made for the finest actors,

for all to see in the confines of our childrens’ classrooms, under the microscope of their teacher's watchful eye, education and expertise (more on that in a second. . .)
