Kids & Art: Taking it Outdoors
Who said art had to be done indoors when the weather is so great outside?
I have just finished a two-hour class teaching kids out doors and it felt GREAT!
We were being creative and developing skills while being in the fresh air on a gorgeous day. They came prepared with sunscreen, hats and water and we got down to it.
You don't have to travel far to find something to draw- just start in your own yard. Study a shrub, flower or tree. Sketch the house. That's what the kids did today and it challenged them alot!

There's so much more to things than we think, and that is why we study from life. They had the opportunity to put into practice different drawing skills as they looked at line, shape, angles, pattern and finally color mixing to capture the color that was actually our there in the world. Two hours flew by and they all did a great job.
I encourage you to buy a sketch pad and pencils for your kids this summer and have them sketch for a little each day.

You can take the supplies on trips with you to the beach, city, zoo or wherever you are going.
It's a great 'slow down' and promotes thinking skills when they could get lazy over the long vacation. Hey- why not join in and do it yourself? You never know, you may get hooked!
