Stillwater Community Theatre Announces Auditions for Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

Stillwater Community Theatre will be casting community members for the summer theater production of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." Auditions are April 29-May 1.

Stillwater Community Theatre is excited to announce it will be casting a total of 85 community members for the summer theater production of “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” Of the 85 people cast in the show, 35 roles are for adults and teens, and 50 are for youth grades 3 and up.

Auditions are open to the public and will be held April 29-May 1, 2013, from 6-9 p.m. Interested individuals can sign up for audition times by emailing Haeri Tollefson, Director, at tollefsonha@stillwater.k12.mn.us. The email should list the day and time range requested for the audition. Individuals considering auditioning must be available for all performances. The show will open on Thursday, July 11, 2013. Performances are July 11, 12 and 13 at 7 p.m. and July 14 at 2 p.m. at the Stillwater Area High School Auditorium.

Callbacks (second auditions) for some roles may be necessary. Callbacks will take place Thursday, May 2 from 6-8 p.m. The final cast list will be posted online Friday, May 10 at noon.

All auditions are private. Participants should prepare to sing one minute of any song. It could be from any Broadway show (including “Joseph”), or a pop, folk, country song if preferred. An uptempo song choice is recommended rather than ballad.

“The important thing is to ‘perform’ the song,” said Tollefson, “You don’t need to  choreograph the song, but you do need to sell it, believe it and put some personality in it.”

Individuals may bring backing tracks on a CD or iPod or bring an accompanist to play for them. Those wishing to have an accompanist must bring their own accompanist and provide their own sheet music. Devices to play CDs and  iPods, in addition to and a piano, will be available for use. Please note that CD and iPod songs should not have  lead vocals on the track.

There is no reading portion for this audition as there is minimal dialogue in “Joseph.”

There is no dancing or movement required in the initial audition; however, there may be some movement/dancing required in callbacks.
