VIDEO: How Well Do You Really Know Your Local Small Businesses?
Which of these shops have you actually been In? Can you identify the 15 businesses in this Tour Main Street video?
Having lived in and near Stillwater my whole life, I'm well aware of the attitude of many longtime local residents. The common attitude is, "I avoid downtown!" It used to be that the sidewalk sales of Lumberjack Days would bring us to town from Lakeland where I grew up, but even that became an attraction for visitors more than the valley's local residents. With the addition of larger, more "convenient" places to shop, our downtown, as with many small towns is too quiet during these long winter months.
But if you're a local resident, I have a question for you.
Do you really know that the local small, independent business community has many great things to offer? No folks, it's not just antique shops downtown, in fact, they're in the minority! Do you understand that the pricing of many of the items they offer are competitive with their corporate counterparts? Additionally, they have items for sale that you'll never see at "big box stores!" There are also service providers in and near downtown such as salons, excercise and healing services and unique places to stay. Did I mention, plenty of free parking? Yes, plenty of parking that I've seen as I've introduced myself and Tour Main Street to local business owners. It surprised me too!

So here's a challenge for you! During my visits into many of these shops I've shot some short clips and I've compiled a brief glimpse of 15 into a quick video. It may take a few views, but if you can identify all 15 in order, I've got over $100 in gift certificates which I've collected for the winner. All of the instructions are on the video!
