Why Summer Tuesdays Hates the Sun at this Very Moment
Behind the Scenes of Summer Tuesdays, Inc. as told by legacy team member Erin Bachmann.

What is the last thing you would think would be an outside event's worst enemy?
That's right, the Sun.
That is, when you've canceled the majority of your event because of impending thunderstorms! (Boo! Hiss!)

Why did we cancel (especially now that the sun is shining brightly)?
Because the radar said 70% chance of rain.

Walking a market in the rain where the vendors items could be ruined doesn't sound appealing, nor does sitting in the soggy park where it had been raining all day. But let's make this perfectly clear – we did not want to cancel the event tonight. We never want to cancel the event. What we do want is safety for our community members.
And why did we cancel so early in the day?
Because our vendors in the market have to be notified early enough, because they are packing their vans and trucks to bring all the fun to the market, set up at 3 p.m. and be ready by 5 p.m. So canceling at 2 p.m. really is waiting until the last minute to let them know.
I have to admit though, watching the families walk through the parking lot of the Water Street Inn with their lawn chairs in tow made my heart drop.
Hearing the amazing talents of Blue Hazard coming from Charlie's Irish Pub was amazing and I longed for all the more people to hear them (which they can now as they are planning on performing at HarvestFest).
But I have to believe in my heart of hearts that if we hadn't canceled the outdoor event tonight we would have had a huge thunderstorm, torrential rain, and a threatening tornado of mass proportions.
But because we canceled it, of course the sun is just shining away.
I think it goes the same for when you get your car washed, it rains. I should have stacked my odds and gotten my car washed as soon as we announced the cancellation. Oh, and have hung all my laundry outside to dry.
