Carbs: Good for you? Yes, REALy!

Real Nutrition*Real Fitness*Real Community

Do you have trouble figuring out what on earth to eat? What we have been taught is actually wrong and making us sick. Are carbs good or are they bad? It’s tough going these days to know if what we are eating is actually being processed by our body or if we are even getting any nutritious value from the foods.

So let’s redefine Carbs, shall we? Carbohydrates are indeed good for you if you consume the REAL carbohydrates. You have got to be real people (got to be real, my love is your love, your love is my love....can you hear Cheryl Lynn singing that awesome song now? That’s what I am talking about!). Real, COMPLEX carbohydrates help your body! They are filled with vitamins, minerals and fiber! REAL carbs are satisfying, take longer to digest (keeps your blood sugar level) and give you REAL energy. These REAL carbohydrates come from the plants such as: broccoli, green beans, spinach, chard, asparagus, brussel sprouts, kale, peas, leeks, peppers, okra, onions, cucumbers, cauliflower, and more wonderful vegetables! Stock up and eat as many as you can!!!

Now let’s discuss the not so great carbohydrates (stop the music!). These come from simple carbohydrates such as pastas, doughnuts, cereals, white breads, or somewhat consumable food that comes from a box. These carbohydrates will get stored directly as fat and have little to no nutritional value-no naturally occurring vitamins, minerals or fiber. They are digested quickly, sending you into a crash which leaves you feeling tired, hungry again and plain old crappy-NOT SO REAL people ....and NOT SO FUN!
