Croix Chordsmen Chorus Spring Benefit Concert at Stillwater Junior High to Feature the Hits of Hollywood
Special guest artist Tasha Schuh, Miss Wheelchair USA 2012, will sing to help give back to Ronald McDonald House
The Croix Chordsmen, a premier a cappella chorus, will perform their 2014 concert with two shows at 3 and 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 26. This year, the Chordsmen will present a collection of familiar songs from a plethora of movies old and new. In addition, the Chordsmen will welcome some special guests to their stage.
The group, After Hours Quartet, which has been crowned Illinois Collegiate Champions for three straight years will share their sounds on a variety of musical styles. They were crowned Illinois District Champions in 2010 and last year advanced to earn a top ten finish at an International barbershop competition. In addition, Tasha Schuh, Miss Wheelchair USA 2012, will entertain the audience with her version of the classic song “Somewhere Over the Rainbow.”
“This is going to be a wonderful and inspiring day of music,” said Matt Hall, Director of the Chordsmen. “We are so excited to perform in a new venue and showcase the talents of our members and our special guest artists.
Schuh, whose father is a member of the Chordsmen, who sustained an accident in high school has become an accomplished singer on her way to being selected as Miss Wheelchair USA 2012. Her story is one of inspiration and overcoming adversity.
“I was very involved in theatre and music growing up. I was a happy go lucky teenager performing in a production of the Wizard of Oz, when during a rehearsal I fell 16 feet through an open trap door and crushed my spinal cord. My life was changed instantly,” said Schuh. “My life changed so much. I was depressed. I came to a crossroads and realized I had to remain positive and move forward. I now have two bachelor’s degrees, drive my own van, I’m married and I speak to people and share my story. My life isn’t what I had envisioned as a kid, but it is a great life.”
A portion of the proceeds from the concerts will go to support The Ronald McDonald House in Rochester, a place that helped support and house Schuh’s family when she recovered. “The Ronald McDonald House has a special place in my heart. They did so much for my family and in turn for me,” said Schuh. “I am so excited for this concert and the chance to sing with my dad and the Chordsmen. It’s a dream come true.” Another local charity benefiting from ticket sales will be Youth in Harmony, a local non profit that helps get young people into music.
The Chordsmen share Schuh’s excitement for the event. “This will be a concert not to miss,” said, Ed Obermeyer-Kolb, Chordsmen President. “Tasha’s story is so inspirational and we can’t wait to share the stage with her on April 26. We are very happy to help her give back to the Ronald McDonald House.”
