Foster Care in Washington County offers one the opportunity to make a difference in someone's life. People have busy schedules, concerns about compensation, and/or the desire to work with a certain age group - that's why several foster care options are offered.

Washington County requires interested people to attend an informational meeting which will provide an overview of the foster care program. Those who decide to become licensed to provide foster care, the licensing process begins at no cost to you.

In addition to meeting state licensing requirements, foster families should be able to provide the following:

  • a stable family atmosphere (can be a one- or two-parent home);
  • a positive attitude;
  • adequate housing, whether a house or apartment;
  • love and support for the children or adults in their care.

Before families can be licensed, they must undergo a thorough screening process which includes an extensive background check.
