Stillwater Area High School Winter Concert

The highly regarded music department from Stillwater Area High School will present its annual Winter Concert Dec. 18 at 3 p.m. and Dec. 19 at 7 p.m.

The program will include the large concert ensembles (Concert Wind Symphony, The Stillwater Choir, and the Stillwater Concert Orchestra) and the top co-curricular ensembles (Jazz I, Vagabonds, and Con Amici Chamber Orchestra). The concert is the one annual opportunity for you to hear all of these award-winning ensembles on the same program.

The collective awards won by the individual groups above would fill a classroom. They not only have Minnesota State Contest Superior ratings that are unmatched by any other high school, but several of the groups have competed in and won competitions in a number of other states. Do take advantage of this opportunity to witness this community treasure.

The Stillwater Concert Orchestra will be playing movements 3 and 4 from Dvoraks famous eighth symphony. The Stillwater Choir’s program will include Spheres, an interesting new composition from the young Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo. The Concert Wind Symphony will be performing pieces by Sir Arthur Sullivan, John Gibson and Strange Humors by John Mackey. The co-curricular ensembles will perform holiday favorites and other pieces.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and students and can be secured by calling 651-351-8208. The Sunday concert, in particular, does tend to sell out.
