Fire Caused Estimated $250,000 in Damage

In the early morning hours of Aug. 8 a fire sparked in the 800 block of 2nd Street.

A fire in the 800 block of 2nd Street, S., broke out around 3:45 this morning. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The responded and arrived to "heavy smoke and flame from a second story porch on the east side of the structure," Fire Chief Stuart Glaser said in a press release.

The residents escaped the fire without injury, as did one cat, but three others died in the fire.

Stillwater Fire crews with the assistance of several mutual aid departments brought the fire under control within twenty minutes.

Glaser said the home was saved and preliminary damage is estimated at over $250,000.

Fire crews stayed on scene for several hours checking for extension, protecting the homeowner’s belongings and ensuring the fire was extinguished.

Agencies assisting in the fire response included: Stillwater, Bayport, Mahtomedi, and Lake Elmo Fire Departments. Additional responders included Lakeview EMS, Stillwater Police, and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office 911 Communications Center.
