Kennedy Assassination: Myths and Reality 50 Years Later

The Washington County Historical Society is excited to announce that Judge Jack Tunheim will be the featured speaker at our annual meeting at the Water Street Inn in Stillwater on Thursdays, September 19th, 2013.

From 1994 to 1998, Judge Tunheim served as chair of the U.S. Assassination Records Review Board, an independent federal agency that reviewed all assassination documents on the assassination of President Kennedy.

The U.S. Assassination Records Review Board concluded that federal agencies "needlessly and wastefully" kept documents about President Kennedy's assassination secret for decades.  As a result, the Board made over 4 million pages of material open to public review at the National Archives.

Judge Tunheim will discuss the many legal, procedural, and practical obstacles faced by teh Board and its staff in its vigorous efforst to pry docuements from our nation's intelligence and law enforcement agencies.   He will also focus on the Board's additional accomplishments of collecting and releasing records previously held by state and local goverments and records remaining in private hands.

The evening will begin at 5:30 PM with a social hour, dinner at 6:30 and short business meeting will be at 7:30. Judge Tunheim's program will begin at 8:00 PM.

Reservations are required. To make reservations or for more information about the event please call (651) 439-5956 or visit www.wchsmn.org.
