Kitchen Fire Causes about $250,000 in Damage to May Township Home

Firefighters on Monday extinguished a kitchen fire at a home in the 12800 block of 120th Street in May Township. No one was injured as a result of the blaze.

A kitchen fire at a home in the 12800 block of 120th Street in May Township Monday morning is to blame for causing more than $250,000 in damage.

Firefighters were called to a β€œworking structure fire” just before 11 a.m. Monday, Stillwater Fire Chief Stu Glaser said. When the first crews arrived, firefighters saw β€œheavy smoke and flame billowing” from the home.

Stillwater firefightersβ€”with the assistance of several mutual aid departmentsβ€”brought the blaze under control within 20 minutes, Glaser said. No one was injured as a result of the fire.

β€œThe first arriving engine company initiated an offensive interior attack and made a quick knockdown on the fire,” Glaser said.

Additional crews established and maintained water supply, checked for extension of the fire and worked to protect the property.

The Bayport, Mahtomedi and Hugo fire departments, along with Lakeview EMS and the Washington County Sheriff Office assisted Stillwater firefighters on the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Residents of the home were alerted to the fire by their smoke detector and called 911, Glaser said. Everyone made is out safely.
