Lake Forest Assault: SWAT Team Activated In Washington County

Authorities say a standoff between a man armed with a shotgun and the Washington County Sheriff's Office SWAT team ended late Friday.

FOREST LAKE, MN — One man is in custody Friday following a standoff involving Lake Forest police and the Washington County Sheriff's Office SWAT team. The standoff reportedly began in the early afternoon and lasted well into Friday evening.

On Sept. 15 at about 12:20 p.m., Forest Lake police officers responded to a residence in the 22600 block of Janero Avenue North for an adult male who allegedly committed a felony-level assault and was in the home, armed with a shotgun.

Authorities said the victim fled the home and the male suspect was the lone occupant in the residence. Forest Lake police officers arrived on scene and located the male suspect on the rear deck armed with a shotgun, according to police.

Officers established a perimeter and attempted to safely speak with the suspect. Authorities said the suspect refused to comply with officers demands.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office SWAT team was notified and responded to the residence. At 9 p.m., the suspect surrendered to law enforcement, according to a news release. He will be booked at the Washington County jail.

The name of the man suspect is being withheld until charges are formally filed against him.
