Stillwater Police: Man's St. Patrick's Day Party Comes to an End at Grandma's House

A 25-year-old Lakeland man was arrested for DWI early Sunday morning in the 1800 block of Pine Street in Stillwater after he allegedly crashed his vehicle into his grandmother's house. According to police, the man's blood alcohol level was .27.

A 25-year-old Lakeland man’s St. Patrick’s Day party came to an end at his grandmother’s house.

After a night of drinking, Stillwater police say Thomas James Grove decided to get in his vehicle and drive his uncle home, and in the process, crashed into the front of his grandmother’s house.

Grove was arrested early Sunday morning in the 1800 block of Pine Street on suspicion of third-degree DWI. He allegedly blew a .27β€”more than three times the legal limitβ€”at the scene of the crash.

According to the police report:

Grove was out drinking at with his uncle and one of his buddies on St. Patrick’s Day. After a night of partying, he decided to give his uncle a ride home.

Police believe Grove was traveling westbound on Pine Street when he attempting to make the left turn on Pine Tree Trail, but due to speed he was unable to make the turn, hit the curb, sideswiped a power pole, continued up an embankment and into the front yard of his grandmother’s house.

Grove’s uncle told police that his nephew traveling faster than 30 mph on Pine Street, but was unsure of the exact speeds.

Grove’s grandmother told police that she was awoken by the sound of a crash. When she looked outside, she saw her grandson’s vehicle parked at her front door, on top of her front step.

No one was injured in the crash.
