It may have been hot the evening of the ArtReach St. Croix Annual Members Show opening reception, but that did not keep more than 130 artists and friends away. What would draw that kind of crowd you ask?
The IkutaSchodde Family Foundation funded three cash prizes for this year's member show. Two awards, the River Moon Award for best in show, and the Board of Directors Award, were announced on August 11 during the opening party.
You can still vote for your favorite for the Audience Award among the 50 pieces of work on display through August 14. The final Award will be announced during Live from the Front Porch on Thursday, August 15.
Laurel Gregorian’s Moon and Moonflowers received the River Moon Award.
“It immediately captured our attention,” said Geoffery IkutaSchodde, co-founder of the IkutaSchodde Family Foundation. “The piece is dark, moody and really glows.” Only after making the award selection did IkutaSchodde realize the piece has a thematic connection that makes it a great choice for the “River Moon Award.”
The Board of Directors Award was a tie between Christie Kowalski for her diptych Floral Creation and Floral Dance and Gloria Adrian for her collage and oil painting Vessel.
The Annual Members Show is on display through Saturday, August 17 including during “Live from the Front Porch” every Thursday from 6-8 p.m. The St. Croix Galleries are open Wednesdays–Fridays, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturdays, 12-4 p.m. ArtReach St. Croix is located at 224 N. 4th Street, Stillwater, Minn.
