Man Charged In Crash That Killed Single Mother

A single mother from Hudson, Wisconsin was killed in a Washington County crash in early 2016.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, MN — A Hudson, Wisconsin man has been charged with reckless driving. Authorities say Drew Fleming, 21, traveled through the air in his vehicle before landing on another car, fatally killing the woman inside.

The fatal crash occurred in West Lakeland Township, Minnesota in February 2016.

Fleming's Saab 9-3 Aero was traveling north on Highway 95 at 22nd Street North before the vehicle crossed the lanes of traffic into the southbound ditch, according to the Minnesota State Patrol (MSP).

Authorities say the Saab then hit an embankment, causing it to go airborne before crashing into a Ford Fusion sitting stationary at the intersection of 22nd Street North and Highway 95

Megan Goeltz, also of Hudson, and had turned 22 earlier that month, was killed.

Before the charges were filed, MSP said preliminary evidence suggested the Fleming may have been distracted while driving, causing the vehicle to cross the lanes of traffic into the southbound ditch.

Assistant County Attorney Thomas Wedes told the Star Tribune that the Goetz family was disappointed that a felony count was not filed against Fleming this week.

According to a GoFundMe established for Goeltz, she was a single mother. Her dauther, Paisley, was 3 at the time of the fatal crash.

A group of Megan's friends are working to raise money for Paisley's education fund.
