Minnesota Firefighters Help Students Celebrate 'Blizzard Prom'

More than 15 inches of snow was dumped on Minnesota the weekend of Forest Lake High School's prom.

FOREST LAKE, MN — Firefighters in Minnesota saved the day for local high school students after a historic blizzard hit the state on the day of their prom. It may be spring, but upwards of 15 inches of snow was dumped on the Land of 10,000 Lakes over the weekend.

The Forest Lake Fire Department decided to open its doors Saturday afternoon so prom goers could have a warm place to gather ahead of time and take pictures. Students jubilantly posed for the camera in front of fire trucks using hard hats, a fire extinguisher, and other equipment as props.

They even gave the event its own hashtag; #BlizzardProm.

Forest Lake High School ended up canceling the prom — scheduled for later that evening — but for the group of students who made it to "Blizzard Prom," it was a day they'll never forget.

"We would like to thank all of the students that showed up and allowed us to be a part of their special day," the fire department said on Facebook. "Have a safe night tonight!"
