Watch: Minn. Schools Prepare For National Student Walkouts
The nationwide walkout comes a week after student demonstrators marched to the Minnesota State Capitol to protest gun violence.

TWIN CITIES, MN — A month after a school shooting in Parkland, Florida that left 17 people dead, students across Minnesota will participate in a nationwide walkout Wednesday in protest of gun violence. The 17-minute walkout is one of hundreds that will be held across the United States organized by "Women’s March Youth EMPOWER."
The length of time was chosen to honor the memory of the 17 Parkland victims.
"Students and staff have the right to teach and learn in an environment free from the worry of being gunned down in their classrooms or on their way home from school," the organization said in a statement. "Parents have the right to send their kids to school in the mornings and see them home alive at the end of the day."
