Minnesota Woman Drowns In St. Croix While Camping With Family

A Minnesota woman drowned after camping with her family on an island on the Wisconsin side of the St. Croix River.

POLK COUNTY, WI — A Minnesota woman drowned after camping with her family on an island on the Wisconsin side of the St. Croix River. The victim was identified as 40-year-old Staci Marie Meehan from Balaton, Minnesota.

On July 22 at 1:39 p.m., the Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a possible drowning along the St. Croix River. The cell phone call mapped to an area south of the Osceola landing. Osceola Fire and Ambulance immediately responded to the location by boat.

Meehan was located and CPR was already in progress. She was taken to the Osceola Medical Center and later transferred to Regions by helicopter. She died Sunday.

It was determined that while walking in the river, Meehan fell and went under, according to authorities.

Assisting agencies in the incident included the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the National Park Service, Chisago County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
