National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day: Washington County

The Washington County authorities are partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration for National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day.

STILLWATER, MN — The Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington County Department of Health and Environment will be partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) again in 2017 for the annual National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. The Washington County Prescription Drug Take Back Events are scheduled to take place in the following locations:

    1. Washington County Government Center 14949 62nd St. N. Stillwater, MN 55082. 8am-Noon.2. Mahtomedi “Rite of Spring” event, Mahtomedi Public Schools District Office 1520 Mahtomedi Ave Mahtomedi, MN 55115. 9am – Noon.

Prescription medications accepted are as follows:

  • Pills and capsules
  • Blister packs Creams and Gels
  • Unused Epipens
  • Inhalers and patches
  • IV bags and vials
  • Liquids/powders and sprays

Items not accepted:

  • Needles, used Epipens, syringes, lancets or thermometers
  • Liquid chemotherapy drugs

These items are accepted at the Washington County Environmental Center 4039 Cottage Grove Drive Woodbury, MN 55129.

Keep the medications in original containers. If you don’t have the original containers, place in a small bag.
Drop-off is anonymous – No ID required.

A total of 70 percent of opioid pain medications trafficked in the state of Minnesota come from friends and family. If you have unused or expired medications, please take advantage of this event, according to a news release. Get them out of the medicine cabinets where, unsecured they can be diverted from their intended legitimate use and potentially cause an opioid related overdose and possibly death.

The medications are securely incinerated to keep the chemicals out of the landfills and the water supply. Authorities also maintain three permanent drop off sites at the following locations:

    1. Forest Lake, Headwaters Service Center19955 Forest Rd N
    2. Cottage Grove, Washington County Service Center 13000 Ravine Parkway S
    3. Stillwater, Law Enforcement Center 15015 62nd St N
