New Stillwater Fire Department Pumper Makes Its Debut

The new $378,000 truck replaces a 25-year-old truck and boasts green energy.

The Stillwater Fire Department unveiled the new “Green Star” pumper on June 30. The $378,000 truck is replacing a 25-year-old pumper and is the newest addition in 15 years, said Stillwater Fire Chief Stuart Glaser.

Brothers Liam and than Kutzer, 3 and 5 years old, respectively, were excited to come checkout the new fire department truck despite the heat. They have family members who are members of fire departments throughout the metro area so they said they have a strong interest in all things fire department. The boys moved with their family to Stillwater a few months ago and jumped at the first chance they had to check out the department.

Glaser said one of the things he was most excited about was how the new vehicle utilizes “Green Star” technology, which uses an auxiliary
generator to operate the vehicle when the main engine is not required. Green Star reduces fuel use, improves the life span of the vehicles main engine, reduces emissions and the overall maintenance costs of the vehicle.

John Hileman was also eager to see the new rescue vehicle and said “The Stillwater Fire Department now has the best darn truck there is
to have with the addition of this one.”

Some of the perks of the new truck include: being built on a Freightliner M2-112 4 door chassis with 370 horsepower DD-13 engine and it’s equipped with a Rosenbauer “EXT” heavy duty extruded aluminum body, rear mounted 1250 GPM Waterous fire pump, 750 gallon water tank, Foam Pro 2001 foam system along with an 8KW Green Star auxiliary engine driven generator power unit, Holmatro
rescue tool power unit system and all LED warning light package. This truck has new safety features designed to improve performance such as antilock brakes, airbags, seatbelt indicators, LED emergency lighting, and reflective stripping.
