Police K9 Dies While On-Duty In Forest Lake

Ranger, a 95-pound German shepherd K9 for the Forest Lake Police Department, passed away after assisting police on a traffic stop early Wednesday morning.

"It is with heavy hearts we post that we lost one of our own this morning," police said Wednesday. "Please keep FLPD and Officer Kent and his family in your thoughts and prayers."

At about 11:35 p.m., Ranger suffered a cardiac arrest while helping police in traffic stop near Highway 97 and Highway 61, the Star Tribune reported.

Officers responded to the stop with Ranger when the driver did not follow orders. The driver was arrested before Ranger went into cardiac arrest.

Officer Nick Kent rushed him to the University of Minnesota Veterinary Hospital, but attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

MN Police Clips posted audio of the dog’s final call: "Final call for police service dog Ranger. End of watch, Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 038 hours. Thank you for your seven years of service, and may you rest in peace."
