Ponies Track And Field Victories Highlight The Week

Stillwater boys, girls track and field teams win sectional True Team titles; Ponies remain in conference title chases in several sports.

While the second week of May has not exactly offered up the idyllic conditions that the first week did, Stillwater sports teams were able to still get in the majority of their schedules despite the threat of washout.

Stillwater Track And Field: Ponies Boys, Girls Win Section True Team Titles

The Stillwater boys and girls track and field teams both claimed their respective Section 2AAA True Team titles on Tuesday at Eagan High School and will both compete in the 25th-annual state True Team meet that Stillwater High School hosts next Friday at 4 p.m.

The Ponies boys rolled to their title with 878 points—122 points better than runner-up Eagan—by winning three relays and four individual events; Neil Goff won the 400-meter run and anchored the victorious 4x200- and 4x400-meter relay teams.

Stillwater's girls squad logged 745.5 points to eke out the host Wildcats by a mere 9.5 points; the Ponies won all four relay events with Natalie Phippen running with all four quartets. Anna Posbergh claimed Stillwater's lone individual first-place finish with a leap of 17 feet, 1 inch in the long jump.

Girls Golf: Deeg Leads Stillwater To SEC Win

Cassie Deeg earned medalist honors with a round of 37 to lead the Stillwater girls golf team to a Suburban East meet win at River Oaks Golf Course on Thursday. The Ponies recorded a 165 as a team.

Baseball: Ponies Remain Tied For First In Conference Race

With 7-3 wins over Roseville and Woodbury on Monday and Wednesday, respectively, the Stillwater baseball team improved to 12-4 overall and remained in a tie with Forest Lake for first place in the Suburban East Conference (SEC) standings with a 10-4 circuit mark.

Individual statistics were not available. The Ponies are currently ranked sixth in the latest state Class AAA poll.

Softball: Stillwater Drops One-Half Game Behind Hastings

A 4-1 loss to visiting conference rival Forest Lake on Wednesday dropped the Stillwater softball team one-half game behind Hastings in the Suburban East race.

The Ponies opened the week with a 5-3 win over Cretin-Derham Hall on Monday and a 5-1 defeat of East Ridge on Tuesday; all told, Stillwater currently holds a 14-3 overall record and a 10-2 conference mark. Individual statistics were not available.

Boys Lacrosse: Ponies Split Early-Week Matchups

A 17-1 throttling of Roseville on Monday, combined with an 8-4 loss to conference-leading Mounds View on Wednesday gave the Stillwater boys lacrosse team a 6-3 overall record—4-1 in the SEC.

Samuel Mathieu leads the Ponies with 32 points, with Ryan Aldridge chipping in 17 points this season; goaltender Turner Uppgren holds a .695 save percentage.

Girls Lacrosse: Stillwater Remains Atop Suburban East

Wins of 12-8 over Roseville on Monday and 14-3 versus Mounds View on Wednesday kept the Stillwater girls lacrosse team atop the Suburban East standings with a 9-1 record.

Hannah Dickman's 63 points lead the Ponies, with Sammi Reiter accumulating 48 points this spring. Goalie Marie Bonine sports a .625 save percentage.

Boys Tennis: Ponies Drop Three Straight

The Stillwater boys tennis team lost all three of its matches this week, falling to Cretin-Derham Hall (4-3), Woodbury (4-3) and Mounds View (6-0, rain) on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, respectively. Individual results were not available.
