The Poop-Scoop on Gut Health and Digestion

Real Fitness*Real Nutrition*Real Community

Have you popped rolaids or tums for heart burn or indigestion? Maybe you even have a Rx for reflux? You are not alone and there is much you can do about it on your own...it begins with your diet and healing your gut. Our gut houses both “good” and “bad” bacteria which we want to keep in balance. If you have ever had to take antibiotics, pain medications (even advil), have eaten packaged or fast foods you could use a little intervention-basically we all could right?

An unhealthy gut leads to all sorts of ailments such as irritability, acne, allergies, chronic fatigue, cancers and more. When we have this imbalance in our gut we are unable to absorb the proper nutrients our body needs. Also, your gut can either make you or break you when it comes to fighting off germs. If you have a healthy gut then your body has the upper hand in fighting off toxins that attack it. If your unhealthy gut is a breeding ground for bad germs then you will get sick more often. Let’s avoid these ‘bad’ bugs as much as we can and get our system back on track.

The bottom line; when you eat nutrient dense and fiber rich foods your gut is a happy place to be. When you eat the hydrogenated/processed foods that gunk up your system and feed the ‘bad’ bacteria in your body it makes it tough to fight off infections, toxins, and leaves you uncomfortable. It also makes it difficult to keep your weight under control.

Here’s what to do:
1. Eat clean, whole, unprocessed foods!
2. Listen to your body: do you get gassy, feel icky, breakout when you eat certain things? Listen and adapt.
3. Eat probiotic foods or take a probiotic supplement.
4. Eat healthy, omega 3 fats to reduce inflammation.
