Stillwater Area High School Heads to Prom
Informal footwear, printed dresses are this year's trends.
Prom is approaching at Stillwater Area High School and the trends are leaning toward casual, but classy, footwear.
According to Stillwater Area High School prom committee president Kirsten Shotley, guys are wearing Nikes in lieu of formal footwear and girls are trading in sandaled heels and pumps for flashy Nikes and Coach shoes.
"There's usually a lot silver Nike or silver Coach shoes to pick from," Shotley said. "Any little color in the shoes to match their dress. A lot of guys pick a color in the shoe to match their tux."

Color is in when it comes to shoes, Jamie Heiser, co-owner of Raffine Bridal and Formal Wear confirmed.
"We had a lot of girls do more of a colored shoe," she said. "So if they have pinks and purples in their dress they'd maybe find a pink or purple shoe."

People want to be comfortable and wear a shoe that matches their personality, Shotley said.
"A lot of people go with Converse shoes because they have a lot of different shoes to choose from," she said.
As for the dresses, Shotley said the color purple and bright color are particularly fashionable and prints have come into fashion, too.
"I think people are starting to get bored with straight colors," Shotley said.
Animal prints are particularly popular, Heiser said, noting that the business has sold a lot of a particular dress sporting a peacock print.
"I would say definitely something more with straps versus strapless is in," Heiser said. "So we're seeing some fun, different straps with some different, unique backs."
Fitted dresses are also in and so are low-cut backs and small trains, she said.
Men's fashions are also adding color.
"What most of the guys are doing is their vest and tie color will match the date's dress," Heiser said.
The 2011 SAHS prom takes place Saturday, May 14. Prom tickets are $45 each the week of May 2, going up to $50 the week of prom.
