Stillwater Boys Track And Field Team Runs Away With State Title

The boys track and field team are the 2011 Minnesota State High School League State champions.

The Ponies galloped away with the state team title Saturday with 47 points, topping Wayzata (43) and Park and Eden Prairie (each with 42), and sending their Assistant Coach Scott Hoffman into retirement a happy man.

The team title was up in the air until the final event of the meet, the 4x400 meter relay, when the Ponies team of Makao Day, Nate Ricci, Marshall Davis and Neal Goff stepped on the track and broke the state record running the race in 3:16:69. Wayzata finished second with a time of 3:19:46. The previous 4x400 relay record was held by the 1997 Ponies relay team of Runk, Lumby, Langer and Mitchell.

The girls track team finished 29 out of 64 teams scoring 12 points.

Boys Highlights

* Makao Day, Nate Ricci, Marshall Davis and Neal Goff set a state record in the 4x400 meter relay (scoring 12 points) running the race in 3:16:69. 

* The 4x800 meter relay team of Wayde Hall, Eric Johnson, Sean Bjork  and Brett Parendo finished fourth (notching 6 points) with a time of 7:54.94.

* Marshall Davis finished second (10 points) in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.61.

* In the 4x200 meter relay, Makao Day, Nate Ricci, Jake Lammi and Neal Goff finished seventh (scoring 3 points) with a time of 1:29.70.

* Neal Goff finished fourth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.58 (scoring 6 points).

*Marshall Davis finished sixth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 39.38 (sporing the Ponies 4 points).

*Thomas Linner placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:55.41 (scoring 6 points).

* Eric Colvin finished 11th in the 3200-meter run with a time of 9:37.73.

* Nate Ricci finished 18th in the long jump with a leap of 20-06.50.

* Nathan Bird finished 15th in the discus with a toss of 142-09.

Girls Highlights

* Adrianna Nora placed third in the shot put 39-11.75 (earning 8 points).

* Caitlin Hewes finished sixth in the 1600-meter run (scoring 4 points) with a time of 5:04.06.

* Anna Posbergh placed 22nd in the pole vault clearing 9-06.

* Anna Posbergh placed 15th in the long jump 15-06.50.
