Heartbreaker: Rosemount Upsets Stillwater 7-6

The No.1-seeded Stillwater Ponies will play Rosemount tonight at Pony Stadium for a state playoff berth in the Class AAAAAA football tournament. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

The No.1-seeded Stillwater Ponies will play Rosemount tonight at Pony Stadium for a state playoff berth in the Class AAAAAA football tournament. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

Stillwater (8-1) advanced to the state qualifying game after dismantling North St. Paul 41-13 in a Section 4AAAAAA quarterfinal. Rosemount (5-4) beat Lakeville South 20-7 in a Section 3AAAAAA.

The Ponies have played solid football all season long—and ride a six-game wining streak into the playoffs.

“They’re a good football team in a good conference and they played a good schedule. They had Eden Prairie for a nonconference game, so they’ve seen good competition,” Stillwater coach Beau LaBore told the Stillwater Gazette. “They have been in a lot of close games and they’ve won some of those games and they’ve lost some of those close games. It appears they have improved over the season and they have found a way to win more of those games in the second half of the season."
