Stillwater Girls Golfers Finish Day 1 At State In Second

Ponies senior Drew Lynch finished the day second overall, one shot behind the leader at the Class AAA state meet

The Stillwater Area girls golf team sits in second place after the first day of competition at the Class AAA state meet on Tuesday.

The Ponies finished the day with a 337 team score, six shots behind Wayzata. Play resumes Wednesday at 11:40 a.m.

For Stillwater, juniors Cassie Deeg and Hailey Boner led the way on Day 1. Deeg finished the day in fifth place with a 77 overall, six shots off the pace. Boner finished the day in sixth place with a 78.

Senior Abby Thiets finished the day 29th overall with an 86, Alex Zeuli and Erin Thiets each finished 67th with a 96, and Mary Mikutwski finished 76th with a 98.

Individually, New Prague freshman McKenzie Neisen is leading the girls’ tournament with a score of 71.

On the boys side, senior Drew Lynch finished the Class AAA state tournament’s first day with a round of 71. He sits alone in second place, one stroke behind Forest Lake’s Max Kelly. He will tee off at 8:06 a.m. on Wednesday.
