Stillwater Girls Lacrosse Falls In State Third Place Game

The Ponies lost 12-11 to Bloomington Jefferson despite a second-half comeback attempt

The Stillwater girls lacrosse team finished up the 2011 season with a 12-11 loss to Bloomington Jefferson in the state tournament third place game in Chanhassen.

The Ponies were out-shot 30-20 in the contest but still were able to hang with the Jaguars. Stillwater fell behind 8-3 at halftime but out-scored Jefferson 8-4 in the second half.

Dana Almquist led the way for Stillwater, scoring five goals in the game. Hannah Dickman and Sammi Reiter each had three goals in the contest.

But Jefferson’s balanced attack was too much. Three Jaguars players scored three goals apiece, and three more players scored individual goals.

The Ponies finished up the season with a 14-4 record. They lost in the state semifinals on Wednesday to Eden Prairie by a 14-10 margin. Eden Prairie lost to Blake School 11-9 in the state championship.
