Stillwater Hockey Suspensions May Be Tied To Vandalism Case

A woman told police she found two dead goldfish by her house, and someone had put underwear, birdseed, hot dogs, and other items on her car.

Player suspensions that came before a regrettable 7-2 playoff loss for the Stillwater girls hockey team at the section quarterfinals may have been a result of a reported vandalism incident.

Five Stillwater players were suspended before the team was soundly defeated by Roseville. About a week earlier, a Stillwater woman reported that her car, parked in her driveway, had been targeted by vandals.

In addition to finding two dead goldfish near her front door, the victim told police on the morning of Feb. 5 her car had been covered in Post-It notes, rubber bands, underwear, birdseed, hot dogs, maple syrup, and other food, the Pioneer Press reported:

The incident was classified as malicious mischief by police, who recovered at least four UPC numbers among items left at the scene. According to the police report, the Walmart at 5815 Norell Ave. N. in Oak Park Heights was checking in-store purchases and video surveillance possibly related to the incident.
According to the report, Walmart manager Nick Wallrich said he believes several girls purchased and/or stole items from his store the night of Feb. 4, telling police he was aware one of the items was a container of birdseed.

The victim's car, a 2004 Ford Escape, was driven by her 17-year-old daughter.
