Stillwater Lacrosse Teams Trample Anoka

Ponies boys, girls dominate Tornadoes In Section 4 Tournament Openers.

The Stillwater boys and girls teams had no trouble winning their respective Section 4 Tournament openers as both Ponies squads ran over visiting Anoka in back-to-back contests on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Boys Lacrosse: Stillwater 17, Anoka 5

The Stillwater boys lacrosse team opened Section 4 play with a 17-5 besting of Anoka on Tuesday as Samuel Mathieu led all scorers with six goals and six assists.

Mathieu's Ponies teammate Cody Holsten scored three goals, with Tony Yorga and Nolan Rinta netting two goals apiece; Lucas Havlicek, Zach Wittl, Charlie Register and Ryan Aldridge each chipped in one goal apiece in the victory.

Stillwater, seeded fifth in the sectional, travels to take on No. 4 seed Blaine on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the National Sports Center.

Girls Lacrosse: Stillwater 23, Anoka 7

The Stillwater girls lacrosse team overwhelmed Anoka, 23-7, in its Section 4 opener on Wednesday to advance to the semifinals of the tournament bracket.

Individual results were not available. The top-seeded Ponies will host No. 4 Mahtomedi in the sectional semifinals next Tuesday at 7 p.m.
