Stillwater Lift Bridge Crash: Portion Of Boat Sheared Off

One woman was taken to a local hospital after a boat crashed into the Stillwater Lift Bridge Friday.

STILLWATER, MN — The Stillwater Lift Bridge is now operational and resuming normal traffic following a boat crash that caused injury Friday night. At 7:05 p.m., a Northbound Pleasure Craft collided with the lift portion of the Stillwater Lift Bridge. The vessel is a 1967, 37-foot boat driven by a Marine on the St. Croix resident.

The impact occurred as the operator attempted to get under the lift portion of the Stillwater Lift Bridge as it was closing, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office. As the boat traveled under the bridge, the upper portion of the boat struck the bridge and was sheared off.

A Stillwater woman was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident, according to authorities. The accident is being investigated by St. Croix County and Washington County Water Patrol Offices. The Minnesota Department of Transportation was called out to perform an inspection of the Stillwater Lift Bridge to ensure its integrity, according to a news release.
