UPDATE: Stillwater Lift Bridge Inspections Continue, All Lanes Open

The annual inspections of Stillwater Lift Bridge are expected to wrap up on Friday, Aug. 19.

As inspection activities on the top side of the Stillwater Lift Bridge wrap up, motorists will no longer encounter lane closures.

Bridge inspectors will continue their inspection on the underside of the Stillwater Lift Bridge next week and anticipate completing their work by Friday, Aug. 19.

The lane closures were needed for the annual safety inspection of all critical bridge components on the existing Stillwater Bridge. The inspection does not affect the Lift Bridge marine schedule.

UPDATED FROM Aug. 8 at 5 a.m.

Motorists using the Stillwater Lift Bridge can expect major delays starting this morning as traffic is redced to one lane for safety inspections.

The bridge will be reduced to one lane daily beteen 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. during the inspections. Crews are are expected to be finished inspecting the bridge by Friday, Aug. 19.

Flaggers will direct traffic across the bridge during work hours.

Bridge inspectors will perform the annual safety inspection of all critical components on the existing Stillwater Bridge, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. The inspection will not affect the Stillwater Bridge Lift Bridge schedule.

Authorities remind motorists to use the “Zipper Merge Technique” when approaching the bridge during times of heavy congestion.
